How Do I Get My MAC Code?
Finding your MAC Code is easy! Search below for the broadband provider you are either currently with or wish to be with. Click on the button and this will tell you how you get your MAC Code!
MAC Code- What is it?
A MAC code stands for Migration Authorisation Code. You will require a MAC number if you wish to change from your current broadband provider to a new provider as it contains certain information such as your telephone exchange etc. that your new provider will need to know in order to switch your service. Once your new provider has your MAC code you will be able to switch providers seamlessly. This will prevent any disruption to your broadband service and prevent you from having to re-register with a new provider which can take weeks to set up. NB: Please do not cancel your contract with your existing broadband providers once you have received your MAC code as it can take up to 2 weeks for your new provider to switch you over.
How do I switch to another broadband provider?
If you are unhappy with your current broadband provider or are looking for a better or more affordable deal, you need to get your MAC number, or Migration Authorisation Code. You get this from your current braodband provider. You need to get this before you switch.
First of all contact your provider (see below) and request your MAC code (it may be worth discussing at this point what they can offer you as they will try and tempt you to stay with them but don't allow pushy sales people to persuade you, often with false promises, to stay - make sure you stay firm). Your current provider is obliged by law to provide you with a MAC number within 5 days of you requesting it. When you contact your current provider in order to obtain your MAC code you will need your customer reference number or home telephone number handy in order to confirm your identity.
You will then need to pass this MAC code onto your new provider so that they are able to switch over your broadband service. Please note that you should cancel your existing contract with your broadband provider after you have arranged a new contract with another broadband provider to prevent any major disruption to your broadband service.
Top tips to consider before switching:
Consider why you wish to switch; have you been receiving a poor level of service? Do you want to find a better deal? Do you need a faster download speed or a greater download limit?
You should check your contractual terms with your existing broadband supplier. Most contracts fall between 12, 18 and 24 months. If your contract is up or your receiving an unacceptable level of service then you are able to change providers free of charge.
Stay firm - if you are unhappy with the service you are receiving the don't allow yourself to be persuded by pushy sales people - you have the right to switch to a better deal so make the most of it!
Don't cancel your contract with your current provider until your new provider has switched you over to them or you could be without broadband for a number of weeks.
